Biography

Our focus is on the close embrace style, sometimes referred to as "milonguero" style. We are about the passion of the dance. A three minute love affair for each song! We dance "in the music" and not "to the music". Tonya has been dancing for 14 year and Tom has been dancing for 12 years.

Prior to relocating to the Las Vegas area, we taught AT for five years in Minneapolis and for four years prior to that in Tulsa, OK. During our time in Minneapolis, we took off six months and spent time in Vancouver, BC, working on our dance. In Minneapolis, we have shared our passion for the dance with over a hundred students and we are proud of their "embrace" of Tango!

We have made several trips to Buenos Aires to study and dance tango in the true close embrace, as well as workshops here in the US. We had private lessons with Marie and Roberto in BsAs. Their focus is close embrace. Through our trips to BsAs, we have gotten to know many local milongueros and portenas and have received many compliments from them on our tango. Our last trip to BsAs, we took lessons with Salvador and learned "canyengue", the original tango style.

In April of 2002, we attended a week long workshop with Fernanda Ghi and Guillermo Merlo in Costa Rica. We also participated in three performances with them and others while on this trip. We enjoy promoting Argentine Tango, through demo’s at various venues.

We have attended workshops in Minneapolis, as well as Dallas, Tucson, Chicago and three years in Miami at the US Tango Congress. Professionals that we have had instruction with include; Juan Carlos Copes, Carlos Gavito, Fernanda Ghi and Guillermo Merlo, Alex Krebs, Osvaldo Zotto and Laurena, Daniel Trenner, Marcelo Solos, Facundo and Kelly, Fabian Salas, Michael Walker and Lauren, Daniel and Maria and Tete, Gustavo Naveira and Giselle Anne. We have met many fabulous people from various communities across the country, attending the various workshops. We have taught workshops in Mt. Vernon, MO; Little Rock, AR; Tulsa, OK and Minneapolis, MN.
